The average salary in Sandton is R322k per annum, although significantly more (up to R1 million per annum and beyond) can be earned in financial manager, operations manager, and business analyst roles. A second tier of high-paying and rewarding positions involves the likes of marketing manager, an executive assistant, a chartered accountant, and a software developer.

According to BusinessTech, which reported not that long ago on subject via the latest African Wealth Report, South Africa is still the richest country in Africa, with Egypt in second position – followed by Nigeria, Morocco, and Kenya. Plus they’re well-equipped to cater to the most particular of eating-plan followers. Getting around is easy, of course, via the Gautrain, on foot, in a Uber, or in your own vehicle, if you must. And last, but certainly not least, this is SA’s biggest and brightest financial hub (if that, or a sideline to finances, is your career game). Setting up your business here is a no-brainer for the wannabe fabulous individual, from elsewhere in SA, or even further afield.

Sandton-Info suggests many options for a great day out in the Sandton area, and one that is as kid-friendly as it can possibly be. Here are its four top suggestions:

• a picnic at Mushroom Farm Park’s lush expanse of natural terrain, where the kids can run wild, and have a kick-ass exploration session at the stream. This family-friendly park features is known for its walking trails, playgrounds, and wide open spaces for roaming and exploring;
  • a trip to the Johannesburg Zoo, to watch the animals in their natural habitats, and to participate in the educational talks and feeding sessions offered by their valued caretakers;
  • a putting spree at Adventure Golf, where visitors can navigate their way around the obstacle-filled course and engage in healthy competition;
• interactive learning at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, laid on for children of all ages to take in the wonder of space, take part in safe yet fun experiments, and explore the many exhibits;

• an activity-filled cycling expedition at Delta Park, with its designated paths and tranquil surroundings. Just bring your own bikes, or rent them on the premises.

If you’re poised to settle the vicinity of Sandton, it will pay to do your research on property prices – and trends! – well in advance. Seeff reports that three suburbs in the Sandton municipality, i.e. Broadacres, Birdhaven and Benmore Gardens, rank up there among the country’s best suburbs in which to reside.

“Although not as well-known and extravagant as Sandhurst, Bryanston or Morningside for instance, properties in Broadacres, Birdhaven, and Benmore Gardens are selling fast and demand is high. These suburbs are desirable for many reasons varying from affordability and exceptional location to proximity to top end schools and exclusivity and are enjoying interest from a broad range of buyers”.

Broadacres, the Seeff report continues, offers the most affordable, and plentiful, opportunities for first-time home buyers – from the R675k mark (in sectional title complexes) to approximately R8 million for a luxury family home.  “The average price in this suburb is R2.1 million which, when compared to the greater Sandton area an extremely affordable entry level price,” he adds.

Broadacres features a private hospital, desirable schooling, and several shopping; over and above its proximity to Monte Casino and the new Steyn City estate.

Properties in the smaller, yet highly sought-after suburb of Birdhaven range from R2 to R13 million, as a result of its proximity to a range of prestigious prep and high schools, together with tertiary institutions that cover design (LISOF design school) and business (GIBS). Vining advises that sales to the value of R40 million have been concluded in Birdhaven in recent months, with a price of R2,5 million standing as the typical average.

Benmore Gardens probably tops the list, with prices ranging from R1.6 million to R19 million, and an average sales price in recent months of R5.3 million. “Most buyers here are middle-aged, but younger buyers under 36 years are also taking a keen interest in the suburb located on the doorstep of Sandton, between the prestigious suburbs of Morningside and Sandown in central Sandton,” says Vining, adding that private schooling (i.e. Crawford), the JSE, major banks and finance houses, together with law and insurance firms makes Benmore Gardens a popular spot for professional families to lay down their roots.

  • Sandton City’s Grillhouse, to showcase a tricky client the most top-notch steak you can eat in the north of SA, together with a warm and inviting atmosphere to keep the conversation firing in a positive direction;
  and
• the Keyes Art Mile’s Marble, which is considered a premier lunching option due to its sophisticated ambience – and the innovative way in which chef and partner David Higgs has succeeded in creating something delectable for each and every palate.
