Tax Compliance Supervisor (Legal Background)

SUMMARY:
Our client is seeking an experienced and qualified Tax Compliance Officer for their team in PE.

POSITION INFO:
Location: Port Elizabeth

Must have all Requirements:

1. Grade 12 with accounting as a subject
2. Tax or other relevant qualifications with a decent track record of work experience (5 years)
3. Experience in a tax environment is essential
4. Registered Tax Practitioner or eligibility to be registered

Required Computer Packages:

1. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook Express)
2. GreatSoft
3. SARS E-Filing
4. Working knowledge of Income Tax Act and Tax Administration Act
5. Working knowledge of the SARS dispute resolution process
6. LexisNexis (A fair understanding would be advantageous)

About:
Assisting with the supervision of the tax department staff. Advise staff on tax compliance-related issues. Assist tax manager with the research of tax information, processing of tax queries, and liaising with SARS.

To assist with the management of the flow of work and ensure quality delivery of work outputs of tax staff in relation to audits, income tax returns, provisional tax returns,

Tax Ombud complaints, objections, appeals and tax exemption applications. Assist tax manager with the dispute resolution process and responsible for the follow-up of all disputes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities – Key Performance Indicators:

• Assist in the supervision of the tax department staff
• Assist tax manager and compliance officers with the completion of complex Income Tax Returns
• Assist the tax manager with the administration of provisional tax and meeting deadlines
• Assist with the monitoring of the whole dispute resolution process, including drafting objections, appeals, complaints and the Tax Ombud complaints
• Consulting and advising clients with basic tax queries
• Assist with the preparation and review of complex tax calculations and returns on behalf of clients (companies and individuals)
• Assist the tax manager with the initial completion of SARS response letters and ensure that all deadlines are adhered to
• Responsible for communicating the refund list to the partners
• Oversee the administration of SARS-related documentation received, i.e., assessments and other SARS notifications
• Assist and advise compliance officers of matters relating to the completion of returns and tax administration
• Assisting compliance officers with GreatSoft - related problems in terms of tax
• Provisional tax runs monthly and SARS Provisional Tax queries
• Controlling Greatsoft - related problems in terms of tax
• Ensure the delivery of documents, returns, and payments to SARS at the end of each month
• Ensure that payments requested from clients are regularly followed up on
• Assisting tax manager to ensure that all lists are updated and followed up by compliance officers monthly and sent to each partner – refunds, payments, disputes, and tax returns
• Assist with resolving any disputes on assessments and accounts from SARS, relating to Income Tax
• Assist with Tax Exemption applications and the preparation thereof
• SARS liaison for the resolution of complex tax queries
• SARS visits for updating of banking details and taxpayer particulars and other queries.
• SARS appointments for all the directors
• Ensure that all tax queries and compliance matters for the directors are logged and the progress thereof monitored
• Responsible for the SAIT learners and their relevant training
• Monthly meetings with the tax manager to report on the progress of all tax-related matters
• Ensure team members meet with respective Directors on unsubmitted lists
• Compliance with the firm’s System of Quality Management (SOQM), policies and procedures.
• Compliance with the firm’s Employee Code of Conduct which consists of the firm’s HR policies, SAICA, IRBA and IESBA Codes of Conduct.

Salary:
R30,000 - R45,000
