JOB MISSION:
 
The Systems Architect at Access Bank South Africa is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the architecture of the bank’s IT systems and infrastructure. This role ensures that the bank’s IT solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with business objectives.
 
The Systems Architect will collaborate with various stakeholders to design and deliver robust systems that meet the bank’s evolving technological needs and regulatory requirements.

YOUR ‘DAY TO DAY’
 
Architectural Design and Planning:         

• Develop and maintain the overall architecture for the bank’s IT systems, ensuring alignment with the bank’s strategic goals
• Design scalable, secure, and high-performing IT solutions that meet the bank’s current and future needs
• Create and maintain architectural documentation, including system design blueprints, technical specifications, and integration plans
• Evaluate new technologies, tools, and platforms to enhance the bank’s IT infrastructure and capabilities

• Oversee the integration of various systems and applications to ensure seamless communication and data flow across the bank’s technology landscape
• Work closely with developers, engineers, and vendors to implement integration solutions that are efficient, reliable, and secure
• Ensure that all systems are interoperable and support the bank’s business processes and workflows

• Design and implement security measures to protect the bank’s IT systems from threats, including data breaches, cyberattacks, and unauthorized access
• Ensure that all IT systems comply with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies
• Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and implement necessary mitigations
• Collaborate with the compliance and risk management teams to ensure that systems architecture supports the bank’s governance and risk management frameworks

• Contribute to the development and execution of the bank’s technology strategy, aligning IT initiatives with business objectives

• Identify opportunities for technological innovation and digital transformation within the bank’s IT environment
• Lead the adoption of new technologies, frameworks, and methodologies that enhance the bank’s competitive edge
• Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive continuous improvement in systems architecture

• Lead architectural projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, finance, and business units, to deliver integrated solutions
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to IT teams, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and best practices
• Participate in vendor selection, contract negotiation, and management to ensure that external solutions meet architectural and business requirements

• Monitor the performance of IT systems to ensure they are functioning optimally and efficiently
• Identify areas for improvement in system performance, reliability, and scalability, and implement necessary enhancements
• Develop and enforce standards and procedures for system design, implementation, and maintenance to ensure consistency and quality

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a Master’s degree or relevant certifications (eg, TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are highly desirable
• A minimum of 8-12 years of experience in systems architecture, IT infrastructure design, or a similar role, preferably within the financial services sector
• Proven experience in designing and implementing complex IT systems, with a focus on scalability, security, and integration
• Strong understanding of cloud computing, virtualization, and network architecture
• Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks, such as TOGAF, and familiarity with Agile methodologies
