Job Summary:
Our Radio Station is seeking for a Sound Engineer Intern to assist in the technical operations of our live and pre-recorded broadcasts. This internship provides hands-on experience in radio production, live sound mixing, audio editing, and equipment maintenance. The intern will work closely with experienced engineers, producers, and on-air talent to ensure high-quality audio for our radio programs, podcasts, and advertisements.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Live Broadcast Support

Assist in setting up, monitoring, and adjusting sound levels during live radio shows.

Operate and learn to manage mixing consoles, microphones, and audio processors.

Ensure smooth transitions between music, voice-overs, advertisements, and live segments.

Monitor signal quality and assist in troubleshooting technical issues during broadcasts.
2. Audio Editing & Production

Edit and mix pre-recorded radio segments, interviews, and promotional content.

Work with digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Adobe Audition, Audacity, or Pro Tools to enhance sound quality.

Apply sound effects, equalization, and noise reduction for clean and professional audio.

Assist in the post-production of radio shows and podcasts for digital platforms.
3. Equipment Setup & Maintenance

Assist in setting up, testing, and maintaining studio microphones, headphones, audio processors, and broadcast consoles.

Help in troubleshooting sound-related issues and ensuring all equipment is in working condition.

Maintain an inventory of audio cables, mixers, and other broadcasting tools.
4. Field Recording & Remote Broadcast Support

Assist in on-location recordings and live remote broadcasts, ensuring clear and balanced sound.

Set up portable recording equipment for interviews and special coverage outside the studio.

Learn how to manage mobile broadcasting setups for special events and news coverage.
5. Collaboration & Creative Input

Work closely with producers, hosts, and content creators to improve the sound quality of radio programming.

Contribute creative ideas for improving audio production techniques and enhancing listener experience.

Learn broadcasting standards and assist in maintaining compliance with industry regulations.
6. Learning & Development

Receive mentorship from senior sound engineers on radio sound production best practices.

Gain exposure to emerging technologies in digital and online radio broadcasting.

Understand signal processing, audio automation systems, and digital transmission.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a program in Sound Engineering, Audio Production, Broadcast Technology, or a related field.

Basic knowledge of audio recording, mixing, and editing techniques.

Familiarity with radio broadcasting equipment and DAWs (Adobe Audition, Audacity, Pro Tools, etc.).

Understanding of microphone placement, signal flow, and live sound mixing.

Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and fix audio quality issues.

Ability to work well under pressure during live broadcasts.

Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and with a team.
Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in radio production, podcasting, or live sound engineering is a plus.

Familiarity with broadcast automation software (e.g., Zetta, Wide Orbit, Rivendell).

Knowledge of FCC broadcasting regulations and best practices.
