SUMMARY:
Senior Procurement Officer:
Our client, based in Johannesburg Central, a leading company specialising in manufacturing, is seeking a skilled Procurement Officer to join their team. The goal of this role is to oversee and coordinate the resources and activities involved in purchase transactions, including sourcing, planning, and expediting purchase orders, to ensure timely fulfillment of production schedules and spare parts orders.

Minimum Requirements:
- 3 years’ experience as a Procurement Officer.
- Essential: Matric.
- Good command of English, both written and verbal.
- Relevant tertiary qualification.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Must have own vehicle and a valid Driver’s License.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Research, select, and purchase high-quality products and materials.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating the best pricing and terms.
- Process requisitions and keep management informed about the status of orders.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure stock is maintained at optimal levels.
- Coordinate the transport of goods, track orders, and ensure timely delivery.
- Analyse market trends to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Collaborate with the inventory team, management, and stockroom to ensure smooth operations.
- Assess the quality of received stock and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management.
- Act as the primary point of contact between production, suppliers, and finance teams.
- Process purchase orders based on supply and demand to meet customer requirements.
- Keep the purchase order book updated to reflect current demand and commitments.
- Manage urgent, short cycle demands, customer emergencies, and overdue orders.
- Support inventory management by processing cancellation requests and assisting with inventory programs.
- Address material quality, price, supply, delivery, and invoice discrepancies.
- Assist with financial planning and cost management to control expenditure.
- Support the product development cost quotation process for factory items.
- Coordinate engineering activities and product revisions.
- Prepare and present reports and metrics related to daily activities.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and propose solutions.
- Communicate supply-related issues that could impact business operations to relevant departments.
- Act as a liaison between suppliers and internal teams on purchasing processes and new projects.
- Monitor and assess risks and opportunities affecting the organisation.
- Stay informed on market trends, competitor strategies, and supplier performance.
- Analyse cost structures for both new and existing suppliers and review cost-reduction initiatives.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers to improve pricing and terms.
- Foster strong, long-term relationships with suppliers, ensuring professional communication.
- Ensure compliance with company guidelines, purchasing policies, and procedures during contract negotiations and awards.
- Conduct research to identify potential new components and suppliers.
- Gather and analyse data on supplier performance to ensure contract compliance.
