POSITION INFO:

The candidate will provide support to the department head, and conduct activities relating to the investigation, assessment, reporting and management of contaminated land and associated functions.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY.

Project Management and Reporting

• Manage the investigation, assessment and monitoring of contaminated land sites.
• Prepare schedules, sampling plans, manage and supervise fieldwork investigations and monitoring programs, in accordance with specific project requirements.
• Undertake site visits and inspections as required.
• Manage and supervise departmental staff.
• Manage and supervise specialist contractor / sub-contractor activities.
• Liaise with laboratories regarding technical queries, quotation requests and sample analyses and reporting.
• Manage and review field and laboratory data capture and assessment.
• Prepare technical reports on investigation, assessments or monitoring for various projects giving recommendations and technical inputs where required.
• Effectively manage project budgets and costs.
• Assist with the preparation of project documentation and maintain the filing system in accordance with department procedures and iX engineers’ Quality and Project Management System.

Business Relations

• Liaise with key clients and ensure projects are carried out in accordance with the project requirements and the client’s expectations.
• Attend meetings with clients, authorities and/or stakeholders, present project progress, results and outcomes of investigations and reports.
• Maintain good working relationships with iX engineers' clients and other stakeholders.

Marketing and Development

• Assist in the preparation of quality proposals and tenders, adhering to all bid requirements.
• Prepare marketing materials for the department when required.
• Contribute to the department’s marketing and development strategy and assist in its implementation.
• Assist with the development and implementation of the department’s digitalized data capture process.
• Prepare presentations for department workshops on environmental and contaminated land related topics to enhance personnel development.
• Mentor junior staff and manage performance and development programs.

HSSE

• Adhere to safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure field operations comply with iX engineers and project specific HSE and PPE requirements.
• Prepare risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis for fieldwork carried out by iX engineers and its contractors.
• Prepare Health and Safety Plans for projects.

EDUCATION, LANGUAGE & QUALIFICATIONS

• BSc Environmental Science / Geology / Geohydrology or similar (Honours degree required)
• Registered as a Professional Natural Scientist (SACNASP)

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 8 to 10 years of contaminated land related work experience.
• Good working knowledge and application of environmental/waste management/contaminated land related legislation.
• Excellent client relationship skills.
• Excellent technical reporting and presentation skills.
• Excellent level of Microsoft office skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) are essential.
• Must be a team player, have a good attitude and be willing and able to adapt, as necessary.
• Must have good organizational skills and display a high level of accuracy/attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license and own transport.
