Roles and Responsibilities:
Compliance and Regulations:
- Ensure adherence to local, national, and international safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, API, ISO).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry safety standards and legal requirements.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and inspections.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Control:- Identify potential hazards in the workplace, including chemical, physical, and ergonomic risks.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP).
Safety Training and Awareness:- Organize safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety drills, and emergency response training.
- Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns.
Incident Prevention and Investigation:- Investigate accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Document findings and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain records of incidents and report findings to management.
Emergency Response and Preparedness:- Develop and maintain emergency response plans.
- Coordinate and lead emergency drills (fire, chemical spill, explosion, etc.).
- Liaise with emergency response teams and local authorities.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Management:- Ensure proper selection, availability, and use of PPE.
- Conduct PPE training and fit testing.
- Monitor compliance with PPE requirements.
Workplace Safety Inspections and Audits:- Perform routine and unannounced safety inspections.
- Identify unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure proper signage and labelling of hazardous materials.
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Programs:- Implement and monitor safety programs such as Process Safety Management (PSM) and Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS).
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
- Monitor air quality, noise levels, and other environmental factors affecting safety.
Documentation and Reporting:- Maintain safety records, including inspection reports, training logs, and incident reports.
- Prepare safety reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are accessible and updated.
Contractor and Vendor Safety Compliance:- Evaluate and monitor contractor safety performance.
- Ensure third-party vendors comply with site-specific safety protocols.
- Conduct pre-job safety meetings and orientations for contractors.
Continuous Improvement and Safety Culture:- Proactively seek ways to improve workplace safety.
- Encourage employee participation in safety initiatives.
- Implement and track key safety performance indicators (KPIs).
Experience & Qualification- 3 to 5 years’ experience in the petrochemical industry.
- The ability to work shifts.
- Medically fit to preform duties.
- Registered at SACPCMP.
- Compulsory inhouse testing for potential candidates
- Police clearance (SAPS) adventitious
- Either a NEBOSH International General Certificate or a bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety.
