Our client, secured a 7 year Railway maintenance contract at Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal which started on the 1^st February, 2020 and the end of contract is 31 January 2027.

The successful applicant will be required to start employment as soon as possible and will be offered a Fixed Term Contract up to 31 January 2027. Only applications with required qualifications and experience will be considered.

Job Purpose
To monitor, maintain and continually improve the ISO 45001:2018 management system.

To monitor compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, standards and client specifications.

The Safety Officer will be responsible for providing safety support to the management team, supervisors, team leaders and workers.

Responsibilities / Duties / Job Skills
Maintain ISO 45001:2018 compliance, including internal, third party, surveillance and re-certification audits.

• Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and inform management of any deviations.
• Observe work in progress, ensure that relevant procedures are followed and make recommendations for improvement.

• Notify management and staff regarding violations of safety regulations and codes and make recommendations for corrections and follows-up to ensure that violations have been corrected.
• Develop and implement, after approval, internal safety rules, policies and guidelines and employee instructions.
• Perform other duties related to HSE, as required from time to time.

• Conduct audits, incident investigations, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Manage safety staff, first aid coverage, and ensure employee induction and training compliance.
• Oversee safety obligations for project and maintain relevant documentation.
• Lead external audits and ensure safety expectations are communicated and understood.
• Coordinate safety meetings and maintain safety boards and HSE manuals.

Knowledge / Qualifications / Experience

• 3 Year Health, Safety and Environmental experience.

• Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or Certificate e.g. SAMTRAC; NEBOSH.
  • Registered with SACPCMP as CHSO.
  • Experience and proven track record in implementing and maintaining ISO 45001:2018.

• Certificates in ISO 45001:2018 Understanding and Implementation and Internal Auditing.
• Incident investigation.
• HIRA
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Medically fit and in good physical condition.

Beneficial/ Advantage

• Railway maintenance experience.
• ISO 45001:2018 Lead Auditor certificate.
