SQL Support Engineer

SUMMARY:
Managed Talent Solutions, a Business Unit within Datacentrix is looking for a SQL Support Engineer with experience in clustering, log shipping, and mirroring.  You, and optimal performance of our organization's SQL Server will play a pivotal role in ensuring the high availability, disaster recoveryer database environment. Your expertise in these technologies will be crucial in designing, implementing, and managing database solutions that provide data integrity, availability, and seamless failover.

POSITION INFO:
Required Qualifications:

• Matric plus Diploma/Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
• Microsoft SQL certification

• High Availability and Clustering:
• Design, configure, and implement high-availability database clustering solutions using technologies such as SQL Server AlwaysOn, Windows Server Failover Clustering, or other relevant clustering solutions.
• Monitor and manage clustered databases to ensure continuous availability, failover readiness, and data integrity.
• Troubleshoot and resolve clustering-related issues, including failovers, connectivity problems, and synchronization errors.
• Disaster Recovery and Log Shipping:
• Design and maintain robust disaster recovery strategies using log shipping techniques to ensure data protection and rapid recovery in case of failures.
• Configure and manage log shipping processes, monitor synchronization, and troubleshoot any replication discrepancies.
• Regularly test and validate log shipping procedures to ensure readiness for disaster recovery scenarios.
• Database Mirroring:
• Implement and manage database mirroring solutions to provide real-time data replication and failover capabilities.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database mirroring synchronization, connectivity, and failover scenarios.
• Performance Optimization:
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks within high-availability environments, optimizing database performance and responsiveness.
• Implement best practices for indexing, query optimization, and resource utilization to enhance cluster and replica efficiency.
• Security and Compliance:
• Collaborate with the security team to implement and maintain database security measures, access controls, and compliance standards within clustered and mirrored environments.
• Monitoring and Alerting:
• Configure and manage monitoring tools to proactively track the health, performance, and synchronization status of clustered databases and replicas.
• Establish and manage alerting mechanisms to quickly respond to potential issues and incidents.
• Capacity Planning and Scaling:
• Assess database growth patterns and usage trends to forecast capacity requirements and recommend scaling strategies for clustered and mirrored databases.
• Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of clustering, log shipping, and mirroring configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Provide knowledge sharing and training to team members and stakeholders on best practices for high availability and disaster recovery.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and network engineers, to ensure the seamless operation of clustered and mirrored databases.
