Retail Operations Manager

SUMMARY:
Our client is looking for a dynamic and experienced Retail Operations Manager to drive growth across their retail stores and distribution centers. This role involves delivering hands-on business consulting services, ensuring operational excellence, and supporting store owners in achieving increased market share and profitability.

POSITION INFO:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with regional retailers, store staff, and internal corporate teams
• Ensure retail stores meet corporate identity guidelines and adhere to minimum format standards
• Promote high operational standards and excellence across all store locations
• Support retailers with strategies to grow their businesses and improve profitability
• Analyze business performance and offer practical, data-driven recommendations
• Interpret financial reports to inform growth plans and guide store owners
• Develop tailored business growth plans for individual stores
• Conduct regular store visits and audits, with structured reporting to relevant stakeholders
• Provide insights on evolving retail trends and competitor activity within the hardware and building materials sector
• Foster collaboration and alignment between retailers and the corporate team

• Tertiary qualification, ideally in Business or Financial Management
• At least 5 years of experience in a senior retail or home improvement management role
• Strong business acumen with the ability to engage and influence entrepreneurs within a structured business environment
• Solid understanding of the building materials and hardware retail space, and the challenges of small to medium-sized businesses
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess financial performance and guide profitability initiatives
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel and intermediate PowerPoint skills
• Self-starter with leadership ability, attention to detail, and a results-driven mindset
• Sound knowledge of hardware and building materials products
• Valid driver’s license, South African passport, and a willingness to travel extensively
