POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The Project Engineer will play a key role in supporting delivery of mobility and energy system projects within the national electric mobility programme. The candidate will have interactions with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery and will need to provide technical support on topics related to integration of systems and sub-systems, including market research and data analysis. As a dynamic environment, supporting functions and responsibilities will evolve, therefore flexibility and adaptability will be key.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Engineering

• Execute the development, assembly, operation and maintenance of vehicle systems and energy systems
• Alignment of technical specifications and standards for projects
• Research on the electric mobility ecosystem
• Ensure all work is done in accordance with acceptable engineering methods and principles
• Conceptual development and detailed design of control and automation hardware and software systems and subsystems for new and existing machines and equipment
• Management and maintenance of engineering platforms
• Management and undertaking of implementation and documentation of control and software systems and subsystems
• Provision of analytical and technical assistance to senior and junior design engineers and engineering interns
• Reading and interpretation of technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports
• Evaluation of engineering problems and needs and making recommendations to clients thereon

Projects

• Assisting with development of project plans, timelines, budgets and resource requirements
• Support project resources to ensure project delivery with team members, stakeholders and sub-contractors
• Documentation of projects according to internal and external administration standards
• Supporting development of new projects and business opportunities

General:

• Provide technical support for electric vehicle system and energy system related projects
• Maintain alignment to technology and market trends for existing and new projects

CORE COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics Engineering, or Technical equivalent

Minimum Experience:

• At least 2 years relevant experience in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment for the responsibilities (excluding internship and trainee positions)
• Relevant working experience with Control Systems and Programming
• Proven experience and skills within Programming (Microcontrollers, PLCs, etc), MS Office

Desirable Additional Education, Work Experience and Personal Qualities:

• Professional Registration: Engineering Council of South Africa (Acquired / Initiated)
• Computer Science qualification will be advantageous
• Prior experience with Electric Vehicles will be advantageous
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance
• Team player with strong desire to support team success
• Enthusiasm for technology (mobility and renewable energy)
• Good communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
