JOB CONTEXT:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Procurement Buyer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing goods and services that are essential to our day-to-day operations. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure timely delivery, cost-effectiveness, and quality assurance.

THE JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Responsibility:

• Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of materials, components, and services needed for railway operations and maintenance.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure reliable supply and favorable terms.
• Conduct supplier audits and performance evaluations to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Manage the end-to-end procurement process, including creating and issuing purchase orders, negotiating terms and conditions, and confirming order details.
• Ensure that all purchased items meet the required quality standards and are delivered on time.
• Monitor inventory levels and forecast demand to plan and execute timely purchases.
• Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure the best possible prices, terms, and conditions.
• Review and manage contracts to ensure compliance with agreed terms and resolve any issues related to contract performance.
• Work with legal and finance teams to address contractual and financial matters.
• manage procurement budgets, ensuring cost-effective purchasing and adherence to financial constraints.
• Analyse pricing to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
• Implement cost control measures and monitor spending against budgeted figures.
• Ensure that all procured goods and services meet the quality and safety standards required by the railway industry.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies related to procurement.
• Address and mitigate any risks related to supplier performance, quality issues, or supply chain disruptions.
• Prepare and present procurement reports, including spend analysis, supplier performance metrics, and procurement activity summaries.
• Provide recommendations for process improvements and strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on procurement needs and priorities.
• Communicate effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and address procurement-related inquiries.

• Strong understanding of procurement processes, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
• Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
• The role may involve occasional travel to supplier sites or company facilities.
• Office environment with occasional exposure to manufacturing or warehouse settings.

• Matric Certificate
• Certifications or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.

• Proven experience as a Procurement Buyer or in a similar procurement role, preferably within the train or transportation industry.

• 5- 10 years’ experience.

• Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
