Our client, a leading company in the agricultural industry, is seeking a skilled Post Harvest Manager to oversee the handling, storage, processing, and distribution of fresh produce. The ideal candidate will focus on ensuring efficient post-harvest operations that maintain product quality, minimise losses, and comply with regulatory standards. This role offers the opportunity to work with growers, manage logistics, and contribute to the success of a dynamic agricultural business
POSITION INFO:
Minimum requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture (Horticulture, Agronomy, Soil Science) or related field
- Minimum of 5 years' management experience in fresh produce post-harvest or supply chain management
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of international trade terms and multimodal transport
- Experience in the sub-tropical fruit or fresh produce industry is essential
- Key Responsibilities:
- Set and monitor packing and fruit grading standards at packhouses to meet customer requirements
- Develop and implement operational plans to enhance efficiency and minimize product loss
- Ensure temperature protocols are followed throughout the logistics chain (packhouse fridges, transport, cold stores, sea/air freight)
- Oversee laboratory testing for MRL, maturity, and ripening, using the data to guide harvesting, packing, and supply chain decisions
- Develop forecasting models based on historical data for procurement and harvesting
- Ensure packhouses and growers comply with food safety, social, and environmental standards
- Analyse quality control reports and customer claims, sharing insights with growers
- Manage marine insurance claims process
- Review export returns, claims, and confirm pricing for account sales
- Serve as Key Account Manager for assigned growers, providing market reports, communication, and technical guidance
- Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons and travel to packhouses/suppliers (Mpumalanga, Western Cape, and KZN areas)
