PACKAGING AND RESOURCE MANAGER

SUMMARY:
Our client’s is a handler of fresh produce (fruit and vegetables) and is recruiting for an experienced Packaging and Resource Manager to be based at their branch in Alberton.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Packaging and Resource Manager will oversee and optimise the allocation of resources within our production and operations environment. This role will coordinate personnel, equipment, and materials to ensure the efficient and timely production of high-quality goods. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent organisational and leadership skills and will be adept at balancing multiple production priorities.

REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer

REQUIREMENTS

• Relevant tertiary qualification.

• Prior supervisory or management experience in relevant field will be advantageous.

• Intermediate-level math skills
• Ability to read and write English.
• Strong Computer Literacy
• Strong analytical skill set will be beneficial.
• Technical knowledge in understanding of packaging materials, equipment and production processes.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Able to work accurately with high volumes of work
• Good communication skills
• Self-disciplined– must be able to work without supervision while meeting set targets

RESPONSIBILITIES

REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION

• Maintain accurate records related to resource allocation and inventory levels.
• Generate regular reports to senior management highlighting resource utilisation, performance and areas of improvement.
• Ensure documentation of production processes, equipment maintenance, and staff training is up to date and readily available for audits.
• Forecasting resource needs based on production schedules.
• Allocating resources effectively across different production lines.
• Monitoring resource utilisation and identifying potential bottlenecks.

EQUIPMENT

• Ensure the efficient management of all packing equipment (CHEP, FM Crates, Pallets, Bins, and Farm Equipment) according to current Standard Operating Procedures.

STAFF

• Be able to function within a matrix leadership environment.
• Build and manage a strong team of skilled staff.
• Ensure staff are trained, equipped and capable of doing the job required.
• Ensure the number of staff in each area matches the demands of the business.

PACKAGING MANAGEMENT

• Designing and implementing packaging strategies to meet product requirements and branding standards.
• Managing packing inventory levels.
• Optimising packaging procedures to minimise costs and waste.
• Prepare packaging for delivery to customers/farmers.
• Inspect samples of printed materials and labels for adherence to expected quality levels.
• Implement quality control checks on all packaging materials to ensure that all packaging received is food-safe and meets specifications.
• Create purchase orders and follow up on all packaging orders effectively.
• Ensure packaging is issued to production per order and recorded for traceability purposes.
• Capture GRNs and ensure accuracy according to audit standards.
• Check daily products and supply levels to anticipate packaging problems and shortages.
• Trace and record all packaging materials used and reorder stock.
• Conduct regular stock counts to determine stock availability, monitor and maintain records of all physical transactions.
• Coordinate with Production and Quality Assurance to ensure adherence to all manufacturing and packaging processes and schedules.
• Resolve any packaging issues in coordination with the Production, Staging and Quality departments.
• Report packaging issues for supply and delivery with management and find appropriate solutions.
• Source suppliers, build and maintain good relationships with them.
• Keep an up-to-date file of suppliers for valid certification, i.e., certificate of acceptability and conformance.
• Manage and oversee the performance of the packaging team to achieve operational requirements. o Ensure good housekeeping and safe operating processes and procedures are followed throughout the facility.
• Managing stock levels with third parties/clients.
• Managing the costs/prices of materials and equipment, i.e., always ensuring we get reasonable prices from our suppliers.
