Nursery Production Manager

SUMMARY:
Sydsen Recruit is seeking a Nursery Production Manager for a large-scale agricultural nursery operation based in George, Western Cape. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for a proactive professional with a strong background in nursery production, workforce planning, and operational efficiency.

POSITION INFO:
About the Role:
As the Nursery Production Manager, you will be responsible for leading a large team in the execution of day-to-day nursery operations. You’ll collaborate closely with multiple managers and technicians to ensure strategic staff deployment, task completion, and production efficiency within a high-paced, high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a team of approximately 180 staff, including daily task planning and productivity tracking.
• Allocate resources based on weekly schedules from various departments to ensure operational efficiency.
• Oversee task execution via a labour planning portal, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
• Enforce health and safety standards, manage staff discipline, and support a positive work environment.
• Collaborate with management and technicians to align staffing with operational priorities.
• Identify and implement process improvements to boost efficiency and reduce delays.
• Communicate progress, challenges, and performance updates regularly across departments.

• Education: Tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Production Management, or a related field
• Experience: 3–5 years in nursery production or a similar operational role
• Skills:
  
  • Strong leadership and staff coordination skills
  • Competence in labour planning and resource management
  • Familiarity with digital tools for task management and reporting
  • Excellent communication skills in English (Afrikaans and Xhosa advantageous)
• Driver’s Licence: Valid Code 8

• This role includes physical tasks such as lifting and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Overtime and weekend work may be required during peak periods
• You will be expected to be on call for urgent operational matters outside regular hours
