Migration Specialist

SUMMARY:
Managed Talent Solutions client in the mining sector is looking for a Migration Specialist who should possess a solid working knowledge of Windows operating systems and domain structures, along with a high level of understanding of Active Directory (AD) and its components. Experience with the Quest migration tool for transferring servers and user objects between domains is preferred. They should appreciate and understand how various systems operate and integrate within an IT environment. Strong analytical skills are necessary to analyse and troubleshoot technical issues effectively. Additionally, the candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with various role players and stakeholders and ensure accuracy and thoroughness in all migration-related tasks.  The person will be involved in the planning and execution to migrate domain objects (workstations and servers) from one domain to another, while ensuring the operation activity is not being impacted. Experience in Wintel preferable.
This will be an 8-month FTC with the possibility to extend. Must have at least 5 years relevant experience.

POSITION INFO:
Key responsibilities:

• Migration Planning and Coordination: Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the availability of accurate information. The candidate must be inquisitive and ask pertinent questions to understand the technical requirements during the planning phase of a migration.
• Data Preparation: Receive and prepare lists of usernames, groups, and service accounts from systems scheduled for migration between domains. Utilise Quest for migration preparation.
• Migration Execution: Initiate and oversee the migration process from one domain to another.
• Post-Migration Verification: Confirm the successful completion of migrations and manage handovers between key stakeholders.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues when migrations do not proceed as planned.

• Monitoring & Management: Ensure efficiency of Windows & Virtualization platforms.
• Security: Policies, procedures, and controls to secure systems.
• Automation: Utilise PowerShell scripting for automation tasks.
• Server OS Management: Expertise in Windows Server OS 2016/2019/2022, including installation, configuration, and hardening.
• Failover Clustering: Knowledge of failover clustering for Windows Server 2016/2019/2022.
• Maintenance: Hands-on experience with FTP, antivirus, and patching.
• VMware Expertise: Proficient in VMware ESXi 6.x, 7.x, and 8.0, including installation, implementation, and configuration (vMotion, HA, DRS, datastores).
• Virtualization Management: Manage production and non-production environments, including Hyper-V servers and clusters.
• Technical Communication: Present technical information to stakeholders
• Performance Analysis: Analyze and report on infrastructure performance.
• Change Validation: Validate changes on server virtualization/migration platforms.
• System Center Management: Implement and manage System Center Virtual Machine Manager.
• Physical Server Management: Manage physical servers, chassis, and VxRail.
