Duties & Responsibilities
Equipment Installation and Maintenance

• Install, assemble and fit mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps, turbines, compressors, heat exchangers and piping systems.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Identify wear and tear on machinery components and replace parts as necessary.

• Diagnose mechanical faults in equipment and identify the root cause of failures.
• Conduct repairs and adjustments to ensure minimal downtime and safe operation.
• Utilise technical manuals and blueprints to resolve equipment issues efficiently.

• Follow safety protocols and procedures, especially those specific to the petrochemical environment (e.g. handling hazardous materials and working in explosive atmospheres).
• Conduct risk assessments before commencing any work and implement mitigation measures.
• Ensure compliance with industry-specific standards such as API, ASME, and OHSA regulations.

• Fabricate, modify and install custom mechanical parts and systems as per project requirements.
• Use tools such as grinders, drills and welding equipment to perform modifications safely and accurately.

• Conduct precision alignment of rotating equipment using tools such as laser alignment systems.
  • Conduct hydrostatic, pneumatic, and other pressure tests to verify system integrity.
• Test repaired or newly installed systems to verify functionality and ensure they meet performance standards.
• Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs and maintenance activities for auditing and compliance.

• Work closely with engineers, supervisors and other trades (e.g. electricians and instrument technicians) to achieve project goals.
• Provide input during planning and shutdown periods to ensure work schedules are realistic and achievable.
• Assist in training and mentoring junior team members when required.

• Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment effectively.
• Ensure tools and equipment are kept in safe working condition.

• Act swiftly to mechanical failures during emergencies to minimise risks and downtime.
• Participate in emergency shutdowns or turnarounds as required.

• Suggest process improvements to enhance equipment reliability and reduce operational costs.
• Stay updated with advancements in mechanical systems and tools relevant to the petrochemical industry.

• Prepare detailed maintenance logs, failure reports and recommendations for further actions.
• Ensure that work is properly documented and submitted in line with company requirements.

• 3 to 5 years’ experience
• Trade certificate
