Are you a supply chain enthusiast with a knack for precision and planning? A leading automotive manufacturing client based in Durban is seeking a highly organized and proactive Materials Controller to ensure the seamless flow of materials from procurement to production.

Key Responsibilities
Materials Planning & Procurement
- Responsible for Procurement to Payment Processes and all activities.
- Develop and maintain material requirements planning (MRP) schedules based on production forecasts.
- Monitor inventory levels and place purchase orders to ensure continuous material supply and prevent stock outs.
- Coordinate with suppliers, procurement teams, and production departments to prevent material shortages or excess stock.
- Track supplier performance and resolve delivery or quality issues.
- Develop and maintain material planning schedules to align with production requirements.
- Manage the procurement of direct and indirect materials, ensuring timely supply and optimal stock levels.
- Manage OPEX & CAPEX purchases, ensuring cost-effective procurement of equipment, tools, and operational resources.
- Coordinate with suppliers, procurement, and production teams to prevent material shortages or excess inventory.
- Optimize procurement strategies by analyzing cost, supplier performance, and demand forecasting.
- Analyze demand forecasts and production schedules to adjust material plans proactively.
Supplier & Cost Management
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure competitive pricing, quality, and lead times.
- Evaluate and manage supplier relationships to ensure on-time delivery and compliance with quality standards.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives to reduce procurement costs and improve overall efficiency.
- Track and report key procurement metrics, including spend analysis and budget adherence.
Inventory & Logistics Coordination
- Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct regular stock audits.
- Work closely with logistics and warehouse teams to ensure smooth material flow.
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) for demand forecasting and procurement tracking
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in materials planning and purchasing within an automotive, engineering, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of direct and indirect purchasing, OPEX, and CAPEX procurement.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple procurement priorities.
