At their offices in Johannesburg, they are seeking, at the earliest possible entry date, a Manager of Executive Communications, Government Affairs & Strategic Projects

Job Description

• Direct reporting to the CEO
• Close working relationship with the Deputy CEO, Director Regional and the Head of the Competence Centre Events, Marketing and Membership and all Competence Centres of the Chamber
• Developing and writing speeches, briefings, papers, presentations, statement, position papers and call for comments as well as executive communication of the CEO. Prepare meetings of the CEO with officials, members and stakeholders.
• Prepare comprehensive background info and formulating consistent messaging, also press releases and interviews in close cooperation with the Head of Membership, Marketing & Events. Provide fast response and expert support to CEO and management team
• Develop and implement together with management the government affairs & advocacy strategy of the Chamber, locally and in the region
• Systematically and strategically strengthen local government relations and advocacy activities, including the interaction with government and government-related stakeholders
• Monitoring and analysing policy developments pertaining South African German business relations. Understand, assess and communicate economic policies locally and in the region, by i.e. interacting with government stakeholders as well as member companies in terms of their practical implementation
• In close coordination with the CEO, outreach to and manage the relations with stakeholders such as the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), German Embassy, German ministries, German companies, think tanks, business associations, non-governmental organizations, universities, and research companies to develop and cultivate an extensive network
• Implementation and supervision of certain management initiatives & projects
• Other tasks may be assigned as necessary

Minimum Requirements

• Degree in Economics, Politics, Law, Sociology, or another relevant academic field
• At least 5 years of professional experience in a similar or related field
• A firm grasp of economic and political developments in Southern Africa, Germany, the EU, and international politics and business developments
• Strong intercultural competency and deep understanding of Southern Africa
• Strong analytical skills
• Executive writing and editing skills in German and English
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet short term deadlines and provide fast response support
• Ability to navigate political sensitivity and work in a fast pace environment with strict deadlines and high flexibility to upcoming projects
• Strong sense of responsibility, reliability and ability to observe confidentiality, with high attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently as well as in a team
• Self-motivated, creative thinking, problem solving
• Mother-tongue proficiency in German, both spoken and written
