Maintenance Manager

SUMMARY:

Area/Location: Western Cape, Swellendam

Job Overview:

Responsible for the complete technical and maintenance installations of the De Hoop facilities, including houses and staff village. The role involves overseeing the technical team, ensuring proper maintenance, and managing all aspects of off-grid operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop manuals and descriptions for all technical installations on the property, including drafting maintenance programs for these systems.
• Coach, assist, and train the maintenance team to execute maintenance programs effectively.
• Manage the maintenance team on-site, ensuring work allocation while operational activities for guest services continue (e.g., set-ups, wood supply, etc.).
• Organize the work environment for the technical team, including managing workshops, tools, equipment, and spare parts, and developing procedures for efficient use.
• Ensure the properties are in perfect condition for both guest and staff accommodation.
• Prepare programs and budgets for large-scale maintenance jobs scheduled during the annual closure in June.
• Implement and train staff on the efficient and careful use of equipment in an off-grid operation to limit generator use and diesel consumption.
• Oversee the team of woodworkers involved in the eradication of rooikrans for the foundation project, ensuring processed wood is used internally, with excess sold to reduce conservation costs.

• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge and experience in working with off-grid operations, including solar panel farms, hot water boiler systems, and related installations.
• Hands-on and organized personality.
• Proven managerial skills and experience.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly in training.

• Reports directly to the General Manager, with full responsibility for all technical and maintenance-related issues.
• Part of the management team at De Hoop.
• Live-in accommodation in a single-occupancy unit.
