Junior Operational Assistant

Our client is offering an exciting opportunity for a Junior Operational Assistant to support the effective functioning of climate control, irrigation, and data management systems in their tunnel production division. This role also includes performing maintenance tasks, such as pruning, training crops, and daily upkeep. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, energetic individual with a willingness to learn and grow in a hands-on agricultural environment.

Requirements:

• A relevant degree or diploma in agriculture, engineering, or a related field.
• At least one year’s experience in agriculture, tunnel production, systems control, or a similar role.
• Basic knowledge of climate control and irrigation systems.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to learn and work under guidance.
• Excellent communication skills in Afrikaans and English.
• Availability for water duty one weekend per month.

Responsibilities:

• Pruning, training, and harvesting of various crops.
• Maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of tunnels.
• Removing plant material and supporting crop growth.
• Pollination of plants and other production tasks.
• Monitoring and managing climate control systems (e.g., Netafim and Priva) for temperature, humidity, light, and ventilation.
• Assisting with troubleshooting and maintenance of climate control equipment.
• Implementing emergency procedures during power outages or system errors.
• Following seasonal adjustment guidelines provided by the operations manager.
• Managing irrigation schedules, water supply, and hardware components on Netafim’s irrigation system.
• Monitoring water and fertilizer data (e.g., EC, pH, volume) and ensuring proper application processes.
• Escalating system issues to the operations manager and ensuring adherence to emergency procedures.
• Maintaining clear communication with the team, suppliers, and contractors.

Location: Klapmuts area.

Type: Permanent, full time position based on site.

Salary offered: R15 000 - R18 000 per month (dependent on experience), before deductions.
