Import/Export Specialist

SUMMARY:
We require a highly organised and detail-oriented Import/Export Specialist to manage and oversee our international trade operations.  You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and compliant flow of goods across borders, adhering to all relevant national and international trade regulations.  This critical role requires a deep understanding of customs procedures, documentation requirements, and logistics coordination.

POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements:

1. Grade 12
2. Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain, Shipping, International Trade or related
3. A minimum of 5 years experience in Customs Clearing or Freight Forwarding
4. Experienced with customs regulations and SARS requirements for imports and exports
5. Experience with customers software and clearing systems

• Oversee and organize the filing of correct import and export paperwork (e.g., customs declarations, sales invoices, shipping documents, authorizations).
• Execute the customs release procedure according to the rules of the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and other governing organizations.
• Create, keep current, and revise all customs-related files, such as tariff classifications, duty calculations, and import/export licenses.
• Remain informed about current South African customs laws, tariffs, and global trade regulations to guarantee complete adherence in all operations.
• Determine the correct amounts for duties, taxes, and other associated customs charges, making sure payments are on time to prevent fines.
• Communicate with customs officers, shipping companies, freight handlers, and third-party logistics providers to enable trouble-free customs processing.
• Collaborate with internal departments, like logistics and finance, to synchronize customs operations with company aims.
• Rectify any problems or inconsistencies with customs officials, shipping papers, or tariffs.
• Generate summaries showing customs duties, taxes remitted, and overall customs clearance effectiveness.
• Make sure all records are current for audits and compliance reviews.
