SUMMARY:
Health and Safety Manager
Our client, based in Edenvale, specialising in Mineral Processing & Machinery is currently seeking a Health and Safety Manager. This role involves managing and coordinating internal HSE processes in line with legal and IMS system requirements, as well as engaging with stakeholders on all HSE matters.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum Requirement: Matric Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- Mandatory Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Safety Management, SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or an equivalent safety-related certification.
- Certification: Completed ISO 45001/9001/14001 Auditor Course.
- Incident Investigation: Certification in NOSA, RCAT, or an equivalent incident investigation program.
- Professional Registration: SACPCMP / SAIOSH registration as a Safety Officer or Safety Manager.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of OHSA/MHSA regulations and industry compliance requirements.
- SHEQ Expertise: Extensive knowledge of SHEQ management systems and ISO standards.
- Technical Proficiency: High-level competence in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years in the Safety, Health, and Environmental sector.
- Mobility: Own vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
- Flexibility: Willingness to travel as required
Roles and Responsibilities:- Maintain and oversee the electronic document system, ensuring accessibility and compliance with relevant standards.
- Draft, implement, and periodically review technical HSE documentation, including client-specific requirements.
- Conduct and review risk assessments, enforcing preventative measures to mitigate safety hazards.
- Perform routine safety inspections, document findings, and ensure they are recorded in the IMS system.
- Organize and conduct weekly safety meetings to reinforce safe task execution and address concerns.
- Schedule, coordinate, and oversee all SHE-related training for on-site personnel.
- Ensure the regular and effective facilitation of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Committee meetings.
- Report all on-site incidents, compile necessary documentation, and lead or support incident investigations.
- Provide monthly safety performance reports, including key indicators, and assist in executing the company’s Safety Improvement Plan.
- Manage and coordinate internal HSE processes to ensure compliance with legal requirements and alignment with IMS system standards.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to foster clear communication on all HSE matters.
- Oversee compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, including procurement, distribution, and site availability.
- Maintain comprehensive HSE records, including checklists, procedures, medical fitness certifications, training logs, and daily safety declarations.
- Draft, update, and maintain all legal appointments, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Safe Work Procedures (SWPs).
- Review and approve contractor safety files to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Participate in inspections, audits, training sessions, and incident investigations, liaising with external authorities when required.
- Provide HSE support to Key Account Managers (Site-Specific) to uphold on-site safety standards
