Group Director, Operational Risk

Role Overview

Our client in the banking sector is seeking a strategic and experienced Group Director, Operational Risk to lead the execution of the Operational Risk Framework across the organization.
This role ensures proactive risk identification, assessment, and management while driving compliance, scenario analysis, and risk insights. The ideal candidate will embed a strong risk culture and enhance operational resilience across all business areas.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities

Operational Risk Leadership: Oversee risk management activities, including event reporting, risk assessments, new product risk evaluation, and key risk indicator (KRI) setting.
Framework Implementation: Roll out the Operational Risk Framework, focusing on governance, top risk reporting, capital assessment, and risk appetite metrics.
Stakeholder Engagement: Provide strategic risk insights to senior management, ensuring robust risk-based decision-making.
Process & Control Enhancement: Lead process mapping, risk identification, and control optimization across key business areas.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to industry regulations and internal policies, collaborating with auditors and regulatory bodies.
Outsourcing & Business Continuity Oversight: Develop frameworks for outsourcing risk and oversee the effectiveness of business continuity plans.
Training & Awareness: Promote an operational risk culture by providing training and guidance to business units.

Key Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
10+ years of Operational Risk Management experience, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
Expertise in risk governance, scenario analysis, and regulatory compliance.
Strong analytical skills with experience in data visualization and statistical modeling tools.
Excellent stakeholder management and leadership capabilities.
