SUMMARY:
Our client, a leading Steel distributor is looking for a steel buyer to join their team, the ideal candidate must come from a large steel trading background.

POSITION INFO:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Grade 12 / equivalent
National diploma or degree relevant to Procurement will be an advantage.

REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Steel Mill Buyer is essential.
Experience with imports and exports.
Strong negotiating and sourcing skills.
Bilingual in English and Afrikaans.
Strong knowledge of steel materials, grades, specifications, and production processes.
Microsoft Office packages especially Excel (Intermediate-Advanced).
Syspro and Q-Docs would be advantageous.
Math skills to make sure all calculations are correct.
Negotiation skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Placing of mill orders.
Checking of inventory levels.
Check pricing.
Stay abreast with market trends.
Tracking of stock.
Planning loads with mills and warehouse for collection and delivery.
Purchase order maintenance.
Updating admin spreadsheets.
Follow up with buying team on open purchase orders weekly.
Follow up with sales team on open sales orders weekly.
Submit mill claims and follow up.
