SUMMARY:
Financial Accountant - Pietermaritzburg (contract position)

POSITION INFO:
A well-known client in the retail industry is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join their team on a contract basis.

Responsibilities:

• Preparation, review, reconcile and finalise trial balances, income statements and balance sheets
• Review and analyse annual financials and make the necessary adjustments
• Post journal entries and ensure correct offsets in the financial records
• Ensure accurate payroll processing, including provident fund and group life insurance
• Oversee employee benefits administration and ensure employee tax is reconciled and submitted for payment
• Prepare the file VAT returns and manage VAT reports, reconciliations and payments
• Oversee income tax calculations, including provisional tax payments
• Manage customer collections, age analysis, and debt reconciliations
• Monitor and manage internal cost recoveries across branches, divisions, and intercompany transactions
• Oversee and provide input regarding inventory management, stock takes, and retail reporting
• Responsible for the accounts payable processes, ensuring PO’s, GRV’s SI’s, and remittances are processed correctly
• Manage payments, supplier analysis, and reconciliations
• Manage project accounting and offer guidance in terms of petty cash, cash float, and cash deposits
• Ensure compliance with KYC/FICA regulations for suppliers
• Oversee the vendor onboarding process to ensure compliance with KYC/FICA standards
• Assist with municipal accounts and corporate rental/utilities
• Provide accounting and reporting support/input regarding for intercompany entities

• Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Pastel/Evolution, Excel, and VIP Payroll)
• Excellent understanding of financial reconciliation processes and internal controls
• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
• High level integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information
