Environmental Scientist, Durban
SRK Consulting is seeking an ambitious Environmental Scientist to join their dynamic team in the Durban office. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates with experience in ESG consulting processes.
Description:
The successful incumbent will provide support and leadership in the field of environmental assessment, sustainable development, strategic environmental planning, and a range of other environmental management fields. The candidate should have experience in managing Basic Assessments and/or ESIAs in South Africa. Experience in an allied specialist sub-discipline (e.g. biodiversity, socio-economic assessment, air quality, climate change) will be an advantage.
POSITION INFO:
Experience and Skills:
The candidate must:
- Have a BSc Honours Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Economics, Social Science or Environmental Engineering.
- Have approximately 4 - 6 years of relevant experience.
- Be a registered EAP or Pr.Sci.Nat.
- Have undertaken specific tasks on ESIAs in South Africa and Internationally.
- GIS experience in ArcGIS or similar will be advantageous.
Responsibilities:- Manage Basic Assessments and/or provide support on EIAs.
- Facilitate EIA projects.
- Compile proposals and reports.
- Coordinate project schedules.
- Manage budgets.
- Appoint and manage specialists.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement.
Competencies:- Excellent knowledge and application of environmental legislation.
- Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment.
- Self-starter and committed team player.
- Excellent reporting and presentation skills – additional languages would be advantageous.
- Analytical and integrative skills across diverse disciplines and sectors.
General Requirements:- Have a valid passport, driver’s license and own transport.
- Be willing to travel within South Africa and Internationally.
- Able and willing to work over-time as and when required.
- Willing to learn and grow within a team.
