Electrical Engineer: Renewable Energy Projects and Infrastructure

SUMMARY:
Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their team for a one-year contract position. The successful candidate will primarily focus on design and build projects but will also be responsible for setting up operations and maintenance procedures upon project completion. Knowledge of renewable energy systems, such as photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and wind energy, would be an added advantage.  The position will be based in the far East Rand and will require periodic visits to project sites around South Africa.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and Build: Develop, review, and approve electrical system designs for HV, MV, and LV systems.
• Protection and Metering: Implement and maintain protection and metering systems to ensure the reliability and safety of electrical power systems.
• Operations and Maintenance Setup: Establish operations and maintenance protocols upon project completion.
• Renewable Energy Systems: Work with PV, BESS, and wind energy systems to integrate and manage renewable energy sources.
• Project Management: Coordinate with project teams and stakeholders to ensure timely completion of projects and adherence to budget and quality standards.
• Compliance: Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Standards Knowledge: Keen understanding of national and international standards on electrical installations, lightning protection, and earthing.
• Regulations Familiarity: Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and related regulations.
• Quality Inspections: Conduct quality inspections to verify compliance with system design, technical specifications, and national standards.
• Troubleshooting: Possess structured troubleshooting skills for fault resolution.
• Technical Investigations: Perform technical investigations and compile professional reports on findings.
• Coaching and Mentoring: Coach and mentor engineering interns to enhance their skills and knowledge.
• Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to a positive team environment.
• Performance under Pressure: Maintain high performance standards and deliver results under pressure.

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years' working experience with HV, MV, and LV systems.
• Knowledge: Proficient in system design, protection, and metering systems.
• Skills: Strong experience in managing operations and maintenance of electrical power systems.
• Desirable: Knowledge of renewable energy systems (PV, BESS, and wind) is beneficial.
• Standards Knowledge: Deep understanding of national and international standards on electrical installations, lightning protection, and earthing.
• Regulations: Familiarity with the OHS Act and related regulations.
• Quality Inspections: Ability to conduct quality inspections and ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
• Troubleshooting: Excellent structured troubleshooting skills.
• Technical Reporting: Ability to conduct technical investigations and compile professional reports.
• Coaching: Experience in coaching and mentoring engineering interns.
• Teamwork: Strong teamwork skills.
• Performance: Ability to perform under pressure.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Certifications: Relevant professional certifications are a plus.
