Role Summary
The EFT (Equipment, Field, and Turnaround) Lead is responsible for overseeing the execution of maintenance, equipment reliability, and turnaround activities within a petrochemical plant. They ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with operational standards while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
Duties & Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all activities comply with plant safety protocols, industry regulations, and environmental standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures for maintenance and turnaround activities.
- Lead safety toolbox talks and ensure adherence to PPE and work permit requirements.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, API, and local regulatory standards
Turnaround & Maintenance Planning- Develop and oversee execution plans for turnarounds, shutdowns, and maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to ensure alignment of schedules.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend proactive maintenance strategies.
- Identify and address bottlenecks in work execution to minimize downtime.
Equipment & Field Operations- Supervise field execution of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance.
- Ensure proper inspections, testing, and certification of critical equipment.
- Review work permits, method statements, and job hazard analysis for field activities.
- Troubleshoot complex equipment failures and lead root cause analyses.
Team Coordination & Leadership- Lead a team of technicians, contractors, and support staff in executing turnaround and maintenance activities.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior personnel.
- Work closely with procurement and logistics teams to ensure availability of spare parts and tools.
- Facilitate coordination between various disciplines, including process engineering and project teams.
Documentation & Reporting- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and turnaround activities.
- Prepare detailed reports on equipment performance, failures, and corrective actions.
- Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and monitor adherence to schedules and budgets.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by analysing past turnaround performance.
Key Competencies & Skills- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of rotating/static equipment, piping, instrumentation, and electrical systems in a petrochemical environment.
- Project Management: Experience in planning and executing major maintenance and turnaround projects.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to analyse complex issues, troubleshoot failures, and implement effective solutions.
- Leadership & Communication: Strong ability to lead teams, coordinate with stakeholders, and communicate effectively.
- HSE Awareness: In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in the industry.
- Analytical & Reporting Skills: Ability to use CMMS (SAP, Maximo, or similar) and generate performance reports.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple activities under tight deadlines
Experience & Qualification- Must be medically fit.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification).
- Experience: Minimum of 3-10 years in petrochemical, oil & gas, or refinery maintenance and turnaround operations.
- Certifications (Preferred): API 510/570/653, PMP (for project management), OSHA or NEBOSH safety certifications.
- Compulsory internal testing per candidate.
- A clear criminal record.
Police clearance (SAPS) adventitious.
