DevOps / System Administrator

SUMMARY:
We are seeking two motivated and proactive Junior to Mid-Level DevOps Engineers / System Administrators with a mindset for automation and improvement. As part of a small, agile team, you will play a vital role in maintaining, optimising, and automating the company's systems, ensuring that they run efficiently and securely.

The role is remote, but preference will be given to Cape Town-based candidates who can work from the central Cape Town office at least one day a week.  You will be responsible for automating routine system tasks, monitoring system performance, managing cloud environments, and working closely with development teams to ensure smooth deployment and operations. POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and monitor systems to ensure high availability, security, and performance.
- Automate routine system administration tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with development teams to deploy and manage applications in production environments.
- Configure and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or similar platforms).
- Implement continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Manage backup and disaster recovery systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system and network issues promptly.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging DevOps and system administration technologies and best practices.
 
 Requirements:
- 1-3 years of experience in a DevOps or System Administration role.
- Strong understanding of Linux/Unix systems.
- Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and virtualisation technologies.
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and scripting (Bash, Python, etc.).
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
- Bonus: Knowledge of Ceph software defined storage.
- Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex system issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
- Must be based in South Africa, with preference given to candidates in or near Cape Town who can work onsite at least one day per week.
- Bonus: Interest or experience in science, astronomy, or working on data-intensive systems.

Contract Details:
- 12-month contract with the possibility of renewal for up to 3 years based on client extensions.
