Design Office Manager

SUMMARY:
Company based in Alberton, Gauteng is looking for a Design Office Manager to join their team.

POSITION INFO:
Responsibilities:

• Responsible for ensuring that the company has a clear strategy to design and produce Designs and FAB drawings for the equipment that the company sells in the marketplace.
• Ensure designs and drawings and specifications are produced according to a set quality in the best time possible.
• Manage the Design Office and Engineers.

• Checking the drawings from the designs before sending to procurement and manufacturing.
• Giving design tasks and reading clarifies project specifications.
• Develop 3D models and assemblies using CAD (SolidWorks).
• Develop detailed fabrication drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment using CAD (SolidWorks).
• Resolve workshop fabrication issues, when required.
• Review and critique proposals, plans or designs related to wastewater treatment equipment.
• Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
• Perform design calculations and or review calculations.
• Fault finding and implementing corrections.
• Monitor workshop progress on equipment fabrication progress.
• Create equipment BoM and BOF.
• Design and Develop new Equipment in consultation with client and other various stakeholders.
• Allocate part numbers to new equipment.
• Prototype development and testing R&D.
• Travel to various sites to measure physical dimensions for machinery and observe any malfunctioning of wastewater treatment systems and solve technical problems.
• Conduct QC checks on all designed equipment to ensure they conform with design specifications.
• Manage Drawing revisions and report on them.
• Validate client’s specification, S.A.M.E Data sheets and quotation to ensure that they align with project deliverables.

• Conduct research and development on existing equipment to ensure functionality and cost benefit align with the companies envision profit margin.
• Conduct market research on new wastewater equipment products.
• Ensure that new equipment has been researched and thoroughly developed before fabrication.
• Stay up to date with advancements in CAD technology and design techniques.
• Drive innovation within the design team, encouraging creative problem-solving.

• Responsible for the specification compliance of designs. Read project technical specifications and ensure equipment satisfies requirements.
• Support and monitor implementation of ISO 9001:2015.

• Upgrade program schedules accurately and ensure that the program is realistic and challenging.

• Reports on progress and drive projects deliverables.
• Report on any Non-Conformances related issues.
• Act as a main point of contact between the design team and other departments.

• Communicating with the project managers and workshop manager.
• Working closely with and assisting supply chain, procurement, and projects development.
• Consult with sales rep and client to understand the needs and requirements for a new product or mechanical system.

• Managing the performance and development of the design office.
• Develop and implement KPA'S, policies and procedures for designers and engineers.
• Expediting of delegating the work and manage the workflow in the design office.
• Develop training needs in the design/ engineering department.
• Create and design procedure for the design office.
• Receiving new jobs from sales and from project managers assign jobs to design team.
• Lead and mentor design engineers and draughtsman.

• Support project managers throughout all phases of the project.
• Ensure that the project timelines are adhered to from designing phase to commissioning.

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proficient in: Solid Works or 3D equivalent software.
• Proficient in: MS Office.
• Proficient in: Microsoft Outlook.
• Must grasp engineering and design principles.
• Experience with the Wastewater industry.
• 3-5 years' experience in a Managerial position.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Highly organized and efficient in time management.
• Pro-active and creative approach with strong problem-solving skills.
