Construction manager

SUMMARY:
An international industry leader within the civil construction with projects based in Limpopo is recruiting for an experienced and skilled Construction Manager

POSITION INFO:
Experience:

• The successful incumbent must possess at least ten (10) years’ experience within a similar position within construction project management, with a proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget.

Formal qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil or structural), construction management, building studies, quantity surveying or a related field is preferred
• High proficiency in Microsoft Projects
• Certifications in project management or related areas will be an added advantage
• Valid driving license code 08
• Registration with SACPCMP as PrCM or ECSA as PrEng/PrTechEng
• Own transport

Responsibilities:
Planning

• Developing comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocations and procurement strategies
• Coordinating and overseeing construction activities, ensuring adherence to project schedules and specifications
• Overseeing the logistical requirements of projects
• Setting targets, objectives and responsibilities for all supervised staff and contractors
• Regularly reviewing timings, budget, labour, risk and project plans to ensure work stays on track
• Setting and agreeing on budgets
• Choosing tools, materials and processes to use in the construction project and tracking the inventory of those items
• Conducting an in-depth analysis of the project to develop the most accurate budget and deliverables
• Identifying, managing and mitigating risk factors to ensure the project is in accordance with the expected standards
• Managing construction project documentation, including contracts, permits, drawings and change orders
• Monitoring and reporting on the budget and timeline of the project

Management of staff

• Evaluating and selecting contractors and subcontractors based on qualifications, experience and cost-effectiveness
• Keeping daily employee logs and monitoring the conduct of Construction Workers and Contractors
• Ensuring excellent discipline amongst the workforce and team
• Providing leadership and guidance to the project team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment
• Delegating work to colleagues within your team

Client relations and liaison

• Conducting regular meetings to facilitate communication, address challenges and to meet project objectives
• Providing regular updates and reports on project status, including milestones, budget updates and any significant developments or risks
• Dealing with contracts and mitigating the impact of any issues
• Working closely with Architects, Engineers, Contractors and clients to establish the requirements for the construction project

Quality and legislation compliance

• Conducting site visits to inspect work, check materials and ensure staff are following health and safety guidelines
• Implementing and enforcing safety protocols and ensuring compliance with local building codes and regulations
• Carrying out project evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary corrective measures
• Monitoring project progress, tracking key performance indicators (KPI) and report on project status to stakeholders
• Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and legal requirements, prioritising a safe working environment for all involved
• Ensuring the delivery of high-quality work within contract timescales
• Overseeing the construction process for buildings, bridges, roads and other structures.
• Ensuring that the construction project complies with all safety and building regulations
• Working with local authorities to obtain licenses and permits for the project

Inherent requirements for the position:

• High proficiency in MS Projects
• Proficiency in project administration
• Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes and safety regulations in the South African context
• Excellent time management skills
• Excellent project management skills, including effective planning, organising and prioritising tasks
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, including project drawings and specifications
• Solid grasp of construction methods, building compliance and safety regulations
• Knowledge of basic accounting procedures including the making of financial projections and the creation of budgets
• Working knowledge and experience with legal documentation
• Experience with IT and Mathematics
• Strong leadership skills- including excellent delegation and staff management
• Business management skills
• Familiarity with sustainable construction practices
• Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools and cost estimation software
• Excellent communication (verbal, written and technical)
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Analytical thinking
• Excellent reporting skills
• Knowledge of project management software
• Understanding of contractual conditions and relevant industry regulations
• Excellent attention to detail
