Civil Engineer
A vacancy for a Civil Engineer has become available in the Durban office. The candidate will be part of the KZN SBU, technically reporting to a Civil Engineer and administratively reporting to the SBU Partner. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacancy.
POSITION INFO:
Description:
The position requires a suitably qualified Civil Engineer to work on a range of civil engineering related projects, mostly related to surface water aspects. Problem solving, software knowledge (Advanced EXCEL, HEC-RAS, SWMM, FLO-2D and similar), report writing and project management skills are ideal requirements for possible candidates.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
The candidate must have:
- A BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering;
- A minimum of 1 to 5 years’ experience, and an interest in surface-water, tailings and geotechnical engineering;
- Be eligible to register with ECSA (Pr Eng);
- A moderate to high proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project and MS PowerPoint;
- A moderate to high proficiency in AutoCAD (Civil 3D or TechnoCAD knowledge will be an advantage);
- Administration on ISO9001 compliance;
- A valid (and unendorsed) driver’s license with own reliable transport is essential;
- A valid passport and be willing to travel to remote project sites for work, international travel may form part of the role;
- Possess good writing and communication skills;
- Be willing to work across disciplines, and to develop a diverse skill set;
- Work as a part of a team, providing support where it is required;
- Be resourceful, with good initiative and the ability to work independently.
Interest / Experience in the following areas is preferable: - Flood hydrology;
- Hydraulics;
- Municipal Engineering / Infrastructure;
- Pumps and Pipelines (advantageous);
- HEC-RAS / SWMM / FLO-2D;
- AutoCad / Civil Designer;
- Environmental Sustainability;
- Tailings dam related work.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The candidate will be involved in and/or required to:- Design calculations under supervision;
- Engineering designs and modelling;
- Assisting with compilation and submission of proposals and tenders;
- Assisting in procuring work for the team;
- Data preparation and manipulation;
- Development of models in Excel and PowerBI;
- Site visits and data gathering;
- Construction supervision work;
- Report writing;
- Some administrative tasks;
- Ongoing attention to individual and team development and growth to remain at the forefront of technology will be a key requirement and success factor;
- This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects both nationally and overseas across borders.
