Job Description

Your responsibilities will be the following:

Designing jigs and templates as work aids in the manufacturing process.
Visualising and computing metal shapes and tolerances
Reading and interpreting blueprints, design schematics and CAD drawing of tool, dies, prototypes or models
Prepare templates and sketches and determine work processes
Compute dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools
Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools such as, but not limited to machine tools to cut, mill, plane drill, grind, bore or otherwise shape workpiece to prescribed dimensions and finish
Verify machine parts for conformance to specifications suing precision measuring instruments such as verniers, callipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and electronic measuring devices
Filing, grinding and shimming metals to ensure a smooth finish
Routine Die maintenance checks & refurbishment of Press Tooling
Attend to breakdowns, identification of faults and problem solve at the press with minimal downtime
Inspecting finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness and contour deformities
Conducting try-outs to complete New & Modified Press Dies to support Press operations

Qualifications

Matric
N4 Mechanical (Preferably in Strength & Material, Mechanical Trade Theory & Maths)
Trade Test preferable

Skills

3 – 5 years relevant experience as a Tool and Die Maker
In depth knowledge of metal work including Welding process
Ability to visualise structural components
Translates ideas into expertly crafted metal forms for the manufacturing process
In depth knowledge of machine tools and their uses
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design schematics
Extensive experience with metal working tools such as drills, milling machines, grinders and lathes
Comply with health, safety and environmental policies
Understanding of the manufacturing process
Understanding of costs and financial impact
