Our client – a leading suppliers of petroleum products in South Africa through its vast network of approximately 850 service stations is looking for a Branded Marketer: Business Performance Analyst to join their team.
The client has a Level 1 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment rating against the amended Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Codes of Good Practice. PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The purpose of this role is to manage and prepare the Retail Branded Marketer channel, strategic and tactical business plans together with reporting and review of management plans for full BM KPI tracking.
YOUR ‘DAY TO DAY’
- Overseeing and preparation of the Branded Marketer Business’ Business Planning process, stress-tested and rolled up by Branded Marketer
- Driving the development of all BM tactical and turnaround plans, utilizing robust data and competitor insights (including diesel pricing) to identify the root cause and develop intervention plans
- Working with the pricing team and all stakeholders, assume responsibility for the development of business and/or deal approval cases and assist the BM team with the approval process
- Generate and provide detailed reporting and insights on BM performance (sales and margins) and the competitive landscape, highlighting areas of concern and opportunities for decision-making
- Development of management reports
- Provide financial and economic analysis
- FreshStop validation – ensuring correct income calculation for the client as submitted by FreshStop versus BM submissions
- Deal evaluation before going to pricing with the right deals for quick decision-making
- Help deploy training programs and procedures from FP&A
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:- Finance/Accounting Degree
- Detailed understanding of the Fuel Enterprise Value chain
- Minimum 3 to 5 years Fuel Industry knowledge and experience
- Experience in financial reporting, budget management and financial forecasting
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:- Ability to generate deep insights from analysing data
- Development of reporting templates and business models
- Ability to gather market information from multiple sources, ability to analyze information to draw conclusions regarding competition and consumer/market trends

REPORTING:- Primary Reporting: National Sales Manager – Branded Marketer
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Financial Perspective- Lead the business planning process for the Branded Marketer business, including sales, financials, projects etc
- BM pricing loaded in SAP via Pricing and Finance team - ensure correct end to end process is completed to maintain integrity of pricing
- Opex analysis and reporting, with focus on cost optimisation and challenging spending
- Complete end to end process for annual incentive BM payments
- Verify and validate monthly incentive declarations
- Calculate and process NTI/NTC incentive payments
- Star-card payments:
- Ensuring CSC meets star-card reporting dates (mid and end month)
- Ensure Star-card validated before submitting to Finance
- Align with Finance on Star-card payment validations
- C-store validation to ensure accurate calculations vs BM submissions
- Pricing: Prepare and update Pricing Notices with Pricing Team
- Prepare Annual Accruals for Incentive Payments/Tenure Renewal rebate/ Transport Claims for Finance submission
- Prepare Rebates for submission to Finance, including:
- Tenure Renewals
- Transport claims
- Quarterly rebates
- Track and report on BM Projects (NTI/NTC’s, USTS’, Dry Sites, KDR’s, C-Store etc)
- Incentive payments and Accruals – NTI/NTC incentive payments (calculation and approval process management; V&V monthly declarations with accrual management)
- Create dashboards for ease of communication and tracking all the above
Customer Perspective:- Prepare comprehensive reports, trend analysis and outlook on BM clusters and customer insights for inclusion in the planning and operational management of the individual BM’s
- Ad hoc analytical support for BM Sales Team
- Track under-performing sites and challenge BM team on turnaround plans
Business Excellence:- Strategic BM network plan and business objectives determined
- Collaboration and alignment between various stakeholders as an enabler to the Branded Marketer team
- Deep understanding of the BM operations and commercial structure, working together with the pricing team and BM team to optimize profitability
- Working with the BM team and pricing team, identifying growth opportunities within the BM network including where price support is necessary, and lead the development of business cases for approval. Complete end-to-end Deal evaluations before going to Pricing
- Work closely with the BM team and develop turnaround tactical plans, utilizing robust data and competitor insights (including diesel pricing)
- Develop, maintain, and manage the deal approval templates, including BM margin support requests
- Analysis of the BM Business performance (sales, margin, costs etc.) and the competitive landscape or analysis, and provide deep insights to enable quick decision-making to drive performance growth, optimization, and improvements
- Ability to collaborate, interact, support BM Sales Team to meet Business objectives and deliverables and co-ordinate Business planning outcomes
