Duties & Responsibilities
The Boilermaker Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing a team of boilermakers and related personnel to ensure the safe, efficient and high-quality construction, maintenance and repair of pressure vessels, boilers, heat exchangers, tanks and associated piping systems. The role focuses on meeting safety, environmental and operational standards critical to the petrochemical industry.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of boilermakers, welders and other team members.
- Provide mentorship, technical guidance and training to team members to improve skills and efficiency.
- Ensure all personnel adhere to safety standards, work procedures and company policies.
- Monitor workforce productivity and address any issues affecting performance.
Planning and Execution- Plan, schedule and prioritise work activities based on project deadlines, maintenance requirements and operational demands.
- Review blueprints, technical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate execution of projects.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers and other supervisors to streamline workflows and resolve technical challenges.
- Maintain and manage the availability of tools, equipment and materials required for boilermaking operations.
Safety and Compliance- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, PPE usage and industry regulations (e.g. OHSA, API, ASME).
- Conduct pre-task risk assessments and toolbox talks to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Investigate and report any incidents, accidents or near-misses and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with environmental standards and regulations during boilermaking activities.
Quality Assurance- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards, engineering specifications and codes.
- Oversee pressure testing, non-destructive testing (NDT) and other quality assurance methods to verify system integrity.
- Address and resolve quality issues promptly to prevent rework and project delays.
Documentation and Reporting- Maintain accurate records of work activities, personnel attendance, material usage and project progress.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly and monthly reports to management on project status and workforce performance.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, cost estimates and resource plans.
Coordination with Stakeholders- Liaise with other departments, such as engineering, procurement and safety, to ensure smooth project execution.
- Communicate project updates, challenges and requirements to management and clients as necessary.
Equipment and Maintenance Oversight- Monitor the proper use, maintenance and storage of boilermaking tools and equipment.
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance of tools and machinery to minimise downtime.
Continuous Improvement- Identify areas for process improvements, cost savings and enhanced efficiency in boilermaking operations.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement among team members.
Experience & Qualification- 3 to 5 years’ experience.
