Duties & Responsibilities
Boilermakers in the pipe development industry specialize in constructing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing boilers, pressure vessels, and pipe systems. They play a crucial role in ensuring that systems operate efficiently and meet safety and regulatory standards.

Pipe Fabrication and Installation
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Cut, shape, and assemble metal pipes using welding, brazing, and cutting equipment.
- Ensure the proper alignment and fit of pipe components before assembly.
Maintenance and Repairs- Inspect boilers, pipe systems, and related structures for wear, defects, and leaks.
- Perform preventive maintenance to extend the life of pipe systems and equipment.
- Repair or replace damaged or worn components, such as valves, flanges, or fittings.
Welding and Joining- Perform high-quality welding to join pipes, plates, and other materials.
- Select the appropriate welding techniques based on material type and specifications.
- Test welds for strength, integrity, and compliance with codes and standards.
Safety Compliance- Adhere to workplace health and safety regulations, including the use of PPE.
- Follow safety protocols for working in confined spaces, at heights, and with hazardous materials.
- Conduct regular safety checks of tools, equipment, and work areas.
Testing and Quality Assurance- Test piping systems for leaks using hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure testing.
- Verify that finished systems meet engineering standards and client specifications.
- Document testing results and provide reports for quality assurance.
Collaboration and Coordination- Work closely with engineers, pipefitters, and other tradespeople to ensure project timelines are met.
- Communicate project progress and any challenges to supervisors or project managers.
- Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure the availability of required materials and equipment.
Project Execution- Plan and prioritize tasks to align with project schedules and deadlines.
- Monitor and manage resources to minimize waste and maintain cost-efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during fabrication or installation.
Specialized Techniques- Utilize advanced methods such as plasma cutting, rolling, and bending for pipe fabrication.
- Operate specialized equipment, such as cranes and hoists, to move heavy components safely.
- Apply heat treatment processes to improve material strength and durability.
