BUSINESS UNIT GENERAL MANAGER

SUMMARY:
Large electronics / electrical manufacturing group seeking an experienced and qualified General Manager for the KZN Business Unit.

POSITION INFO:

The Business Unit General Manager role is to manage all elements of a Business Unit on a day to day basis, from developing, setting and implementing the BU strategy to managing the daily operations across all functional areas of the business unit. i.e. SALES & MARKETING, PRODUCT MANAGEMENT, SERVICE DELIVERY AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT, SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE, FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, PEOPLE MANAGEMENT.

Key elements:

1. Operational experience in managing a plant at a GM level.
2. Strong financial acumen.
3. Strong external focus in terms of acquisition.
4. Must be comfortable engaging at an EXCO level with clients as well as executive management.
5. Must be a self-starter.
6. Must be able to function independently and take ownership for turning the business around.
7. Must have a good network with strong relationships in the plastic injection moulding and/or metal pressing environment.
8. Strong Industrial relationships background and have been exposed to negotiations with trade unions.
9. Has experience in turnaround strategies and the operationalization thereof.
10. Must be able to build a strong team and take the team along the turnaround journey.
11. Must be comfortable in making the hard decisions that are required in turning a business around.
12. Must be customer centric.

Expectations of the GM operationally and strategically:

• Expectation of the GM is to pull profit and loss responsibility and take full ownership of the business from quote to cash.
• The GM is to build a synergistic and competent team to lead the turnaround strategy and further grow the business.
• The GM is also expected to have a sound foundation in labour relationships and have the ability to build a cohesive and synergistic team. The GM must be a team player.
• Expectation is that the GM has the ability to function independently and take full ownership and accountability of his/her team.
• The building of a robust business development pipeline and turning that pipeline into firm customer orders is critical for this business.
• GM is to take full responsibility and accountability for pricing and ensure that the plant functions at the required operating levels from a recovery, cost, and profit perspective.
