Job Overview:

An energetic and passionate Assistant General Manager is sought to join a dedicated team at an exclusive, privately-owned game lodge in Pilanesberg. The ideal candidate will have experience in field guiding, front-of-house, housekeeping, and laundry management.

Primary Responsibilities
Operational Oversight

• Assist the General Manager in overseeing all lodge departments, including housekeeping, food and beverage, front office, guest services, and maintenance.
• Monitor daily operations to ensure the lodge operates smoothly and efficiently.
• Act as the point of contact for department heads to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
• Guest Experience Management
• Ensure exceptional guest service by addressing guest needs, complaints, and feedback promptly and professionally.
• Uphold and enhance the lodge’s standards of hospitality, comfort, and service.
• Oversee the planning and execution of special events, tours, or guest activities.

• Supervise and motivate staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
• Assist with recruiting, training, and developing employees to meet operational standards.
• Provide team members with ongoing guidance and performance feedback.

• Assist with budgeting, cost control, and financial planning to optimize profitability.
• Monitor department expenses and ensure compliance with budgetary constraints.
• Prepare financial reports and support revenue generation initiatives.

• Ensure that all health, safety, and environmental regulations are strictly followed.
• Develop and enforce policies for wildlife safety, conservation, and risk management.
• Oversee routine inspections and audits to maintain high standards.

• Collaborate with guides, rangers, and conservation teams to ensure wildlife and natural resources are respected and preserved.
• Support educational programs for guests to promote responsible tourism and conservation efforts.

• Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure the lodge’s infrastructure, vehicles, and equipment are well-maintained and operational.
• Address urgent repairs and oversee improvement projects.

• Promote the lodge through marketing campaigns, partnerships, and social media.
• Build and maintain relationships with tour operators, travel agents, and other key stakeholders.
• Monitor guest reviews and implement strategies to improve guest satisfaction scores.

• A minimum of 5 years in hospitality management, preferably in a luxury game lodge, safari lodge, or eco-tourism setting.
• Proven track record in team leadership, operations management, and guest relations.
• Computer literacy.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written).

• Degree or diploma in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or a related field preferred.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost control.
• Proficiency in property management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

• Knowledge of wildlife, eco-tourism, and conservation principles.
• First aid, CPR, or emergency response certifications are an advantage.
• Flexibility to work in a remote location and adapt to the unique challenges of a game lodge setting.
