Assistant General Manager – Ultra-Luxury Boutique Hotel

An ultra-luxury boutique hotel set to open in Cape Town is seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Assistant General Manager to play a pivotal role in the pre-opening phase and ongoing operations. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the entire startup process, including sourcing, staffing, training, system implementation, and guest experience development.
The ideal candidate must have a strong background in luxury accommodation and guest experience at the highest level, with recent experience in a high-end boutique hotel environment. As the second-in-command, this role requires a dynamic leader with a meticulous eye for detail, a passion for excellence, and the ability to execute a seamless luxury hospitality experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all aspects of the pre-opening phase, ensuring a smooth and successful launch.
- Manage staff recruitment, onboarding, and training, ensuring a world-class team is in place.
- Develop and implement operational systems, SOPs, and luxury service standards.
- Work closely with the General Manager and ownership to shape the guest experience and uphold the hotel’s boutique luxury identity.
- Ensure seamless accommodation and front-of-house operations, with a focus on personalised service and attention to detail.
- Oversee guest relations, ensuring all guests receive an exceptional and bespoke hospitality experience.
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to source premium products and services that align with the hotel's luxury positioning.
- Monitor financial performance, budgets, and cost control while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
- Oversee reservations and revenue management, ensuring optimal occupancy and profitability.
- Work closely with marketing and sales teams to position the hotel as a leading ultra-luxury destination.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a leadership role within a luxury boutique hotel environment.
- Proven experience in a hotel pre-opening or restructuring project is highly advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of accommodation, guest experience, and front office operations at a high-end level.
- Exceptional leadership, team management, and training skills.
- A refined understanding of ultra-luxury hospitality standards, guest expectations, and personalised service delivery.
- Strong business acumen with experience in financial management, budgeting, and revenue optimisation.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining an impeccable level of detail and service execution.
- A qualification in hotel management or a related field is essential.
- A valid driver’s licence and own vehicle are required.
