Job Title: Accountant
Location: Germiston, Johannesburg
Salary: R35,000 – R40,000 CTC per month
Reports to: Financial Manager

Our client, a well-established company based in Germiston, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join their finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for daily cashbook processing, bank reconciliations, and other accounting duties. Position Overview:

The Accountant will be responsible for managing and processing the company’s financial transactions, ensuring that all financial activities are accurately recorded, reconciled, and reported. The role will also involve the preparation of monthly management accounts, managing fixed assets, and supporting the Financial Manager in day-to-day financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cashbook & Bank Reconciliation:

  • Daily capturing of bank account transactions and performing bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure payments are loaded onto the banking system accurately and timely.
  • Address bank queries and provide administrative support regarding new credit cards.

• Balance Sheet & Income Statement Reconciliations:

  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Perform various income statement account reconciliations, ensuring that all transactions are recorded correctly.

• Monthly Journals & Fixed Asset Management:

  • Process monthly journals and maintain an accurate fixed asset register, including wear and tear register.
  • Ensure proper depreciation of assets in line with company policies.

• Credit Card & Loan Account Reconciliations:

  • Ensure that credit card statements reconcile to the general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly interest on loan accounts and complete loan account reconciliations.

• Forex Payments & Foreign Creditor Reconciliations:

  • Prepare forex payments and forward them to the bank for processing.
  • Manage foreign creditor reconciliations and ensure they are completed accurately.

• Insurance Management:

  • Follow up and ensure that all insurance claims are processed and finalized.
  • Maintain the insurance register and analyze insurance payments.
  • Provide monthly reports on the status of insurance claims.

• Banking & Payments Administration:

  • Update and maintain the FNB recipients' folders on online banking platforms.

• Monthly Reporting:

  • Prepare the monthly reconciliation file and assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Compile the management pack for review by the Financial Manager.

• General Accounting Support:

  • Assist the Financial Manager with ad-hoc tasks and financial projects as needed.

Key Requirements:

• Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (essential).
  • Completed articles or professional certification (e.g., SAICA, CIMA) will be advantageous.

• Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an accounting or finance role, with a strong focus on daily cashbook processing, bank reconciliations, and monthly reporting.
  • Experience working with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Pastel, Sage, or similar).
  • Experience managing fixed assets, insurance, and loan account reconciliations.

• Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in processing financial transactions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve financial discrepancies.

Additional Information:

• Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
